The Sixth Saying from the Cross: John 19:30 “It is finished.”
Most gracious and merciful God, these words of your Blessed Son climax the thousands of years redemption was in preparation. Your plan of redeeming grace from before the foundation of the world in these words met its zenith. The promise given by you in the garden when man fell from wholeness was here fulfilled. That which the prophets spoke of was culminated. The great purpose for your establishment of the nation of Israel to provide a lineage for the Saviour was here crowned. The reason for the manger, the thirty years of preparation, the three of teaching all reached their purpose in these words, “It is finished!” How glorious! Man’s debt of sin was paid. The lamb had been slain. The thirst of sin for blood had been quenched.
We thank you that now the veil was rent and the way to the seat of mercy was opened to whosoever will come. We rejoice that now the way to you was paved in love and passable for every sin-laden soul. Now man could be made whole again through the broken body of Christ. Now the work of providing the way of redemption was over. It was finished. All that needed to be done was done. All that remains is for souls to walk the way of the Cross in repentance and faith to find forgiveness that is freely offered.
Help this one now to live abundantly through Christ the Saviour of the world.
