Mr. Joseph William “Joe” Chancey, age 95 of the Boardtown community, Ellijay, Georgia died on Wednesday evening, August 20, 2014, at his residence.Joe was born November 26, 1918 in Ellijay, Georgia to his late parents George Matthew and Hulda Lidora Sisson Chancey. He was a member of the Boardtown Church of Christ and served his country honorable in the US Marine Corps during WWII, serving in the Pacific Theatre of the war. Mr. Chancey retired from the Tennessee Copper Company, where he worked as a carpenter.

He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Mary Chancey of Blue Ridge, GA and Joe Devell and Patty Ann Chancey of Rogersville, TN; Grandchildren, Danny Chancey, Debbie Meissner, Christie Moore, Dechelle Linzsey, Barry Chancey, Dana Chancey, and Twaina Chancey; Great grandchildren, Luke Linzsey, Caleb Linszey, Derick Meissner, Billy Chancey, Hannah Chancey, Brandon Meissner, Brittney Pittman, Spencer Moore, and Zachary Moore; Great great grandchild, Brantley Pittman, Mallory Pittman; Brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Irene Chancey of Cherry Log, GA; Sisters-in-law, Claire Chancey and Eva Chancey, both of Blue Ridge, GA also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Saturday, August 23rd, 2014 from the Logan Funeral Home Chapel with Min. Butch Jones, Min. David Mullins, and Min. Johnny Mackey officiating. A military graveside service will immediately follow in the Logan Funeral Home Pavilion with military rites performed by the North GA Honor Guard. Graveside interment will follow in the Boardtown Church of Christ Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Gerald, Johnny and Danny Chancey, Wayne Holt, Beau Chancey, and Mitchell Cantrell.

Family will receive friends at the Logan Funeral Home from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM Friday, August 22nd, 2014.
