The Gilmer High School Lady Cats softball team has continued its improbable postseason run, with a 2-0 sweep of White County in the first round of the AAAA state playoffs.The Lady Cats clobbered the competition with a 10-0 win in the game one and a 9-2. Game one was called due to “mercy rule” after the fifth inning, while game two went the distance.
Freshmen Phenom, Taylor Boling, pitched both games finishing with the game one shut out and a game two no-hitter.
After finishing second in Region 7-AAAA, the Lady Cats earned the right to host the first round of the playoffs a first for the program, with the win, Gilmer goes to the second round of the state playoffs, another first for the program.
The second round match up, set for Wednesday October 22nd has the Gilmer going on the road to Carrollton to face the Lady Trojans. The Lady Trojans also swept the first round, beating Chamblee 26-0, (8-0, 18-0).
