Featured Stories, News November 27, 2014 , by Derek RosasELLIJAY, Ga — With standing room only at the monthly meeting on November 20th, the Gilmer County Board of Education board members voted to approve and finalize the 2015 ELOST resolution.Several citizens spoke at the November 20th BOE meeting in reference to the ELOST. Some were giving final words of why they think certain projects should be completed with ELOST dollars while others were once again voicing their concerns with the whole ELOST Resolution in general (to read more about the concerns that have arose see these articles and watch the attached videos: Concerns Arise, ELOST Wishlist, ELOST Wishlist 2)
Once the members of the community finished speaking during public comment the meeting moved in and out of regular monthly business.
Upon the completion of the regular monthly reports of school business, such as the review of finances and updates on projects happening amidst the different school campuses, Superintendent of Schools Jason Kouns made the recommendation for the board to vote on and pass the ELOST resolution as it stands with no other changes to be made to it. After a few moments of silence, board member Michael Bramlett made the motion to approve the resolution. Bramlett was seconded by Vice Chair Jim Parmer. All members voted in approval of the ELOST resolution.
The ELOST Resolution will now be sent to Kennesaw State University to be printed on a ballot and then presented to be voted on at a special held election in March of 2015. It will be at this time when the citizens of Gilmer county will vote whether or not to approve the implementation of a once cent sales tax to pay for the projects listed in the ELOST Resolution.
The finalized list of the ELOST projects can be found on page six of the ELOST Resolution provided in the link above.
