Rev. A.J. Clayton age 88 of Flat Branch RD Ellijay, GA died Sunday December 15, 2014. Rev. Clayton was born September 8, 1926 in Gilmer County the son of the late Arvil G. and Eula Mae Parker Clayton. He was retired from General Motors Co., were he worked as a power equipment operator and a welder and was a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church. He was licensed as a Baptist minister in 1954 and ordained June 12, 1963, over the past 60 years he pastored East New Hope, Macedonia, Mt. Zion and Northcutt Baptist Church’s in Gilmer County, Flinthill /New Hope, Toccoa and New River Baptist Church’s in Fannin County and Lebanon Baptist Church in Gwinnett County. He served in the US Army in WWII, served as Chaplin for the North Georgia Honor Guard and North Georgia Medical Center.

Survivors include his wife; Elizabeth Mooney Clayton, Children and spouses; Lloyd and Lucille Clayton, Buford, Lana and Roy Carder, Buford, Larry and Lorene Clayton, Ellijay, Rev. Jerry and Charlene Clayton, Ellijay, Brenda and Steve King, Buford, brother and sister-in-law; Rev. James and Lessie Clayton, Buford, sisters and brother-in-law, Darlene Slayton, Flowery Branch, Mae and J.G. Dover, Ellijay, Dolly Hamby, Eton, 12 grandchildren, 7 step-grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, 5 step-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday December 17, 2014 at 2:00pm from the Ebenezer Baptist Church with Rev. Russell Burt and Rev. Jerry Clayton officiating. The body will lie in state at the church from 1:30pm until the service hour at 2pm. Interment will be in the church cemetery with graveside rites by the North Georgia Honor Guard.

The family will meet with friends Tuesday from 2:00pm until 9:00pm at the funeral home.
