Symbolism Can Be Deadly

Opinion

Opinion By George McClellan:Symbolism is our most important method of modern visual and verbal communication. It transcends all language. Commerce depends on symbolism for their livelihood, spending millions of dollars to protect their brands symbols. McDonald’s Golden Arches and auto manufactures emblems immediately come to mind as famous visual symbols of the products they represent.

In US party politics visual symbolism are expressed in the image of an elephant and an Ass to which various themes are associated, the whole purpose of which is to attract the favor of voters. In American politics the words “Bully Bull Pit” is the verbal symbol applied to the platform from which the President of the United States exercises his ability to use words to influence world events. He does so by making veiled threats to our enemies, assuaging the fears of our allies and influencing the foreign policy attitudes of less friendly foreign country’s.

In America, when someone in authority or high office speaks, like the president from his bully bull pit speaks we, by tradition, listen respectfully and consider the opinions stated. When those speeches turn into demonstrably total idiotic crap, then Americans have another symbolic eight letter word that applies. It is….

The bald eagle not withstanding, our alleged president is Americas main symbol. But, Obama has irrevocably squandered his right to use that symbolism by his lies, lies and more lies. By his own words and deeds he changed the symbol of the presidency from being the sole ‘occupier of the seat of the leader of the free world’, to a forked tongue snake in the grass whose reliability and trustworthiness is doubted by American’s and the entire world as well. Obama has completely debased our American identity from the land that once happily accepted the “poor huddled masses yearning to be free”…to one of “y’all come on in, the waters fine!”

Our alleged president has left our nation in dire peril subject to the whims of political correctness and multiculturalism, under threat of retribution if compliance is not accepted. Those policies are the very antithesis of the principles of freedom made manifest in our Declaration of Independence, a promise that once attracted qualified immigrants to come to our shores, bring their gifts, their energy, and inventiveness and participate in that promised freedom, not to just exchange it for the same bondage to our government like the one from which they fled.

The familiar symbols of Islam are visually expressed as a crescent moon and Arabic characters scribble on the black or green field of a silk flag. New symbols now include the display of the severed heads of murdered infidels, ubiquitous on YouTube videos. The murders in Paris last week, by Islamic Jihadist’s, were also a symbol as was our Presidents failure to attend the Unity March. The terror will continue until such time that government policies embedded in political correctness and multiculturalism become so odious and dangerous that they will either be repealed or ignored which, of course, marks the beginning of anarchy.

My favorite new, old symbol is the yellow “Don’t Tread On Me” flag with a rattlesnake coiled below. It has become the symbol of Americans growing resistance to fascism, socialism and loss of our constitutional freedoms. It is a visual warning to our supposed political leaders that they should take heed. One wonders when will the rattlesnake strike? I think it already has!

Oh yes, that eight letter word is: “nonsense”. Remember, freedom is the goal, the Constitution is the way. Now, go get ‘em! (15 Jan 2015)
