The Gilmer High School Bobcats wrestling team won its 15th state championship when the team traveled to Macon for the State Traditional Tournament. Gilmer had 14 wrestlers qualify for the State Tournament, with 10 wrestlers ended up as place winners, eight wrestlers making the finals, and four winning weight class championships. The Bobcats beat second place Marist, by 73 points. Lucas Patterson, Jamie Lopez, Matthew Waddell, and Levi Seabolt won state titles, at 138, 152, 170, and 285 respectively. Fellow finalists, Dominigo Reynoso (106), Trevor Preece (113), Marcelino Lopez (120), and William Gudger (145) all placed second in their respective weight classes.

Alberto Lopez and Keegan Sharpe both placed fifth at 126 and 138 respectively.

The Bobcats, with only two seniors, Jamie Lopez and Gudger, were thought by many preseason prognosticators to be going through a rebuild year, after losing 12 seniors off of last year’s squad; however, with State Championships in both the Duals and Traditional State Tournaments, the Bobcats bounded over expectations as the “Cats” claimed 14th and 15th state championships for the program.
