The Gilmer High School Bobcats baseball team traveled to Dawson County to take on the Tigers in a Doubleheader. The Tigers took game one, 2-1, while the Bobcats bounced back with a 10-9 game two Gilmer victory.The Tigers took an early game one lead with a run scored in the bottom of the second inning. Garrett Rigdon tied the game in the top of the third with a head’s up play from third on an error at first.
The bottom of the fourth featured Dawson scoring on an RBI single that proved to be the game winner, as neither team mustered more offensive runs throughout the game.
Game two saw the Cats play the home team and erase a 2-0 deficit in the bottom of the first with back to back RBI from Dalton Stephens and Noah Ralston, followed by a base clearing two run standing double from Noah Wilson that out Gilmer up 4-2.
The Tigers took lead with 3 runs scored in the top of third; however, Wilson tied the game with a second RBI standing double in the bottom of the same inning.
The Tigers tied the game and took the lead in the top of the third, with a two run double and an RBI single respectively. Wilson wacked another standing double driving in Stephens to tie the game 5-4 in the bottom of the same inning.
Back to back RBI singles from Drew Healen and Rigdon gave Gilmer a two run, 7-5, lead going into the fourth. The Tigers turned it around in Dawson’s favor with three runs scored in the fifth to put the Tigers up 8-7.
The Tigers held the lead until the bottom of the sixth, when Ralston scored Rigdon with a standing double, and Avery Sirmans drove in Dylan Hatcher and Ralston with a two run single that put Gilmer up 10-8 going into the final inning.
Four outs and only one run given up later, the Bobcats left Dawson with a 10-9 game two win and a 1-1 split.
