Mr. Howard Thomas Nelson, age 83 of Ellijay, GA passed on Thursday evening, April 16, 2015, at Embracing Hospice in Cumming, GA, surrounded by his family.
Howard was born July 15, 1931 in Ellijay, GA to his late parents James John and Nora Mae Dooley Nelson. He was a member of the Ellijay Church of God, served honorably in the US Army in Korea, and worked his entire life as a carpenter in Ellijay for Walter Johnson Construction. Mr. Nelson is preceded in death by his son, Thomas Nelson, and his brothers Bill, Paul, and Charles Nelson.

Howard is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ogal Cardd Nelson of the home in Ellijay, GA; Daughters and sons-in-law Charlotte and Wayne Osborne of Chattanooga, TN and Teresa and Roy G. Allen of Ellijay, GA; Son and daughter-in-law, Rickey and Stephanie Nelson of Ellijay, GA; Grandchildren, Candrice Palmour, Kristin Taffin, Noel May, Lori Brandon, Lacy Heartley, Ashley Barr, Braylyn Nelson, and Ashley Lowe; Twelve great grandchildren; Brothers, Jim Nelson of Ellijay, GA, Foster Nelson of Smyrna, GA, and Jerry Nelson of Blue Ridge, GA also survives.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Sunday, April 19th, 2015 from the Logan Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dan Rosser, Rev. Dwaine Shadix, and David Taffin officiating and speaking. Music and vocals will be by Irene Wofford and Lee Sutton. Interment will follow in the Ellijay City Cemetery, with Chuck Palmour, David Taffin, Lindsey May, Casey Brandon, Matthew Hartley, Chris Barr, Bobby Kendricks, and Richard Exparza serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Harold Palmour, Claude Holt, Rev. Franklin Harper, Dale Cochran, Sam Lowe, Randy Cronan, Jerry Rackley, and Johnny Martin.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Saturday, April 18, 2015, at the Logan Funeral Home.
