Gilmer Baseball Senior Night

The Gilmer High School Bobcats baseball team celebrated senior night honoring seniors: Mayson Carver, Chris James, Garrett Rigdon, Noah Wilson, and manager Abby Collins, in a brief ceremony before the battle with the Ridgeland Panthers. The Bobcats came up short falling 3-2.The Bobcats drew first blood in the bottom of the second inning after Chad Watkins led off with a walk. After Watkins stole second, a sac bunt by Wilson moved him over to third. He scored on Noah Ralston’s RBI single, giving Gilmer a 1-0 lead headed into the third inning.

The score remained 1-0 until the bottom of the fourth, when Gilmer increased the lead in the same fashion as the Bobcats obtained it. Ralston led off with a walk, and Avery Sirmans moved him to second with a sac bunt. Dalton Stephen drove Ralston in with an RBI double that doubled the Bobcat lead to 2-0 going into the fifth inning.

The Panthers pounced in the top of the fifth, tying the game with a bases loaded two run single. The Panthers then took a one run lead, 3-2, after scoring on an error in the same inning.

The “Cats” could not comeback eventually falling 3-2. Gilmer finished the game with two runs on four hits. Carver pitched all seven innings, finishing with five strike outs.
