The Board of Education has been conducting interviews this week. After they received 35 applications, they have currently called in nine people for preliminary interviews for the position of Superintendent.

While these have been called, the Board was certain to explain these are early interviews. All 35 candidates are still being considered. After completing the interviews today, the Board may decide to call more interviews or even call the nine candidates back for further interviews. They have already expressed interest in a second round of interviews as early as June, but they have not yet decided who they will call.

While they cannot release information at this time on who these candidates are, the Board has stated they are very pleased with the variety of candidates they have received. The candidates include 10 with previous superintendent experience, 12 current principals, and 8 assistant superintendents or similar positions. Five of the candidates are from outside of Georgia.

As the interviews proceed, when the candidates do get narrowed to 3 or fewer, the Board will announce these finalists. At that point, the Board will release all documents pertaining to these finalists for a minimum of 14 days for public inspection. After that, they would propose a final person during a meeting to be employed at a set date

Ideally this will all happen before the start of this next school year, however, Dr. Charles Webb, Interim Superintendent, has stated he will remain in position “as long as they need me” so they may focus on finding the perfect fit for the county.
