Matthew 5:3. “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
We thank you, O Lord Jesus, for the blessedness of the Christian life. Everyone wants to be happy and earthly happiness usually depends on the happenings in our lives. But you taught us in your Sermon on the Mount that spiritual blessedness begins with our deep sense of need for you. Instead of a pride of spirit you require a poverty of spirit into which you pour your riches of grace – and then comes happiness.
When we realize our helplessness and put our whole trust in you we are welcomed into the kingdom of heaven. Not only are we in the kingdom – the kingdom of heaven is within us.
If this person who reads this prayer wants to be in your kingdom help this one to see the blessedness which can be exchanged for a self sufficient life.
