Crave Homemade Ice Cream

Neighborhood Merchants

Ellijay’s new Crave Homemade Ice Cream shop is located in the Highland Crossing shopping center across from Lowe’s. Crave offers a unique and family-friendly place to enjoy a variety of premium-quality desserts and sandwiches.Crave is the family-owned and operated creation of Ken and Michelle Warren, who, along with three daughters, became full-time Ellijay residents in January. Though they’ve owned a house here since 2004, the Warrens previously lived in Tybee Island, where they operated Seaweed’s Ice Cream.

With Crave, the Warrens have brought the relaxed atmosphere and imaginative décor of a high-end, beach-side family ice cream shop to Ellijay. In keeping with the family vacation feel of the shop, out-of-town visitors are invited to mark their hometowns on a U.S. map.

The walls are decorated with Ken’s (a carpenter by trade) interesting brand of family-friendly psychedelic mural work, which includes a variety of characters: Cooley the Crave Man, the Crave Bear, Sno-Ball the Sabre-Tooth Tiger, Cookies the Dodo, and Reuben the Cuban Caterpillar.

The shop uses only the best ingredients for it’s “super-premium” home made ice cream (the coffee ice cream is delicious), which it makes from scratch along with ice cream sundaes, brownie sundaes, and milk shakes. Crave also offers 48 flavors of shaved ice or “Sno-Balls”.

Crave hand-carves high-quality meats for its lunch items, which include a variety of sandwiches, such as Cubans, Reubans, and Chicken Salad. Homemade soups, which include a soup of the day, are made fresh daily.

Despite the high quality offerings, the shop’s prices are affordable. In fact, Crave even gives free ice cream cones to dogs; a policy that gets our full approval here at FYN.
