Georgia Speaker David Ralston Salutes Gilmer Veterans

Citizens Speak

During Monday’s Memorial Day event in Ellijay, Georgia Speaker of the House David Ralston presented a house resolution that salutes Gilmer County’s patriotism. Speaker Ralston, an Ellijay Native, presented the resolution to Sandy Lyons of the Gilmer County Veterans Association.

Sandy Lyons is an Air Force Veteran who has worked tirelessly on a range of projects designed to honor local veterans, from the GCVA website, which lists every area veteran from every U.S. war, to the Gilmer County Veterans Bridge Project. Mr. Lyons believes our area is unique and outstanding in its patriotism:

“Gilmer County has the most patriotic and freedom loving citizens in the State of Georgia, and probably the USA.” – Sandy Lyons

Speaker Ralston read from the resolution as Mr. Lyons stood at attention:

“…therefore be it resolved that this House of Representatives salutes the patriotism and love of freedom of Gilmer County and it be recognized on Memorial Day 2011…”
