Matthew 6:12 “Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.”

Our Father, we have sinned against you and others and we bow in humble repentance asking for forgiveness and cleansing. Your Holy Spirit has convicted us of our failure to be all that you want us to become. It is so blessed to know that when we ask for forgiveness you immediately cleanse us from all unrighteousness and restore us to communion with you.

We cannot expect you to forgive us unless we forgive others as we have been forgiven in the past. It is sometimes so hard to forgive someone who has hurt us deeply and done such an incredible wrong that has affected our lives. This signifies to us the great difficulty you have in forgiving us apart from Christ who has taken our sins upon himself.

If this person who pauses for a moments meditation needs to forgive someone, help this one to work through the process and come to the great freedom that comes from not carrying that burden of poison anymore. Jesus said, “If you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.”

Amen.
