While a Georgia state patrol helicopter was searching for Earl Townsend, in the Ridgeway Church Road area near the Gilmer/Murray County line, they came across 14 marijuana plants approximately six foot tall.

The Gilmer County Board of Commissioners held a special meeting Tuesday concerning a rise in health insurance premiums for county employees. The meeting came just days after the BOC decided to give their employees a 3% raise. Matt Bidwell of MSI Benefits presented the details of the policy changes and made recommendations to the board. Who in Gilmer County is really suprised that the completion of the Clear Creek ballfields may now become a reality. A couple of weeks ago, at a forum held in Gilmer County between David Ralston and Sam Snider, Ralston surprised everyone by announcing that when Governor Deal signed the 2014 State budget there would be $540,000 to complete the Clear Creek Ballfields. Monday morning Gilmer County refinanced the Courthouse bond saving taxpayers 1.8 million over the next 18 years. The county refinanced one bond at 3.09% that will mature in 2030. Principal amount 16,565,000.00. Suntrust Bank bought the bond. [Read more »]
House Bill 60, "The Safe Carry Protection Act of 2014" was signed in Ellijay by Gov. Nathan Deal. The Speaker of the House, David Ralston and Georgia state representatives joined the Governor for the signing. The bill signing took place on Wednesday April 23rd at noon at the ETC Pavilion.

A car accident occurred mid afternoon Wednesday, April 9th 2014. A semi-tractor trailer was turning north bound on to Highway 515 from North Avenue. A gray Volkswagen ran the red light and collided with the trailer, becoming stuck. On site police officer say that the driver claims that his breaks were not operating correctly. A female passenger was taking to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries. Alcohol is not suspected to have been a factor.
