Robert “Bob” Vernon Leftwich: Obituary

Dr. Robert “Bob” Vernon Leftwich, age 78 of Ellijay, GA passed Friday morning, October 12th, 2018 at the Grandview Healthcare Center in Jasper, GA.

Dr. Leftwich was born June 21st, 1940 in Columbus, GA to his late parents, John Vernon and Johnnie Amanda Funderburk Leftwich.  Bob served honorably in the United States Air Force during Vietnam.  Dr. Leftwich earned his bachelor’s degree from Troy State College in 1961 and later his doctorate degree from the University of Georgia.  He worked as an educator for over thirty years, serving the last 11 years of his career in the Gilmer County School System.  Bob was a member of Oak Hill United Methodist Church.  His sister, Patricia Leftwich Pommer, precedes him in death.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ann Davis Leftwich of the home in Ellijay, GA; son, Kevin Leftwich of Duluth, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Karen and John Tomlinson of Alpharetta, GA; grandchildren, Mark Davis Tomlinson and Patrick Daniel Tomlinson.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Tuesday, October 16th, 2018 from the Logan Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Warren Williams and Rev. Randall Smith officiating.  Music and vocals will be by Whitney Burnette and Rev. Irene Wofford.  His fellow Gideons will serve as pallbearers.

Military graveside rites will be performed immediately following the funeral service in the Logan Funeral Home Pavilion with military rites performed by the North Georgia Honor Guard.

Graveside interment will follow in the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA at 12:30pm on Wednesday, October 17th, 2018.

Family will receive friends from 12 noon until the service hour at 2pm on Tuesday, October 16th, 2018 at the Logan Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Gideons International, Ellijay Camp, P.O. Box 1704, Ellijay, GA 30540 or to the Gilmer Christian Learning Center, P.O. Box 471, Ellijay, GA 30540 in memory of Dr. Leftwich.

The family would like to thank the staff of Grandview Healthcare Center and Georgia Mountains Hospice for their excellent care of Dr. Leftwich during this difficult time.

Ramona Guinn Elliott: Obituary

Mrs. Ramona Guinn Elliott, age 65 of Blue Ridge passed on Wednesday October 10th, 2018 at her residence.

Mrs. Elliott was born September 23rd, 1953 in Atlanta, Georgia to her late parents Cecil E. Wolaver and Mazie Walden Wolaver. She was a home maker who loved her family.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Philip Elliott of the home in Blue Ridge, GA; sons and daughters-in-law, Justin & Jamie Elliott of Stockbridge, GA, Ryan & Lucy Elliott of Smyrna, GA; grandchildren, Jared Elliott and Jesie Elliott; brothers, Eddie Wolaver of Douglasville, GA and Gerald Wolaver of Strawberry Plains, TN; Sisters, Holly Cosby of South Carolina and Debbie Owens of Charleston, SC.

A Celebration of Life service will be held from 2:00pm-4:00pm on Sunday, October 21st, 2018 at the Brawner Hall 3180 Atlanta Rd SE, Smyrna, GA 30080. A brief service followed by a potluck dinner and fellowship as stories and memories of Ramona will be shared, everyone is invited to attend.

James Brenton De Ford, Sr: Obituary

Mr. James Brenton De Ford, SR. age 75 of Ellijay, died Wednesday August 15,2018.

Jim was born, October 20,1942,in Peru,IN, the son of the late Bernard Paul and Juanita Irene Tucker De Ford. He was a graduate of Marion High School and graduated from Broward Junior College, Ft Lauderdale, FL.

Jim was a veteran, serving 4 years with the US Air Force. He was a Financial Planner in Florida for 20 years. Previously, he worked with the Fraternal Order of Police, providing Country Western Entertainment (Fund Raiser Shows). Jim was a Mentor in the Gilmer County Veteran Drug Court.

Survivors include: sister; Jo Ann Phillips, sons, James Brenton, Jr.; Trimble,MO, Shawn Scott, Mt Pleasant,SC, daughter; Nichole Peterson, Clearwater, FL and nine grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Saturday October 20,2018 (Jim’s Birthday) at 4:00pm at the First Baptist Church with Reverend Scott Eaton officiating.

Leeman A. Teague: Obituary

Mr. Leeman Ambrose Teague, age 85, died Sunday October 14th 2018.

Mr. Teague was born May 22nd 1933 to the late Albert Teague and Martha Teems Teague. He was a graduate of Gilmer County High School and was a prominent businessman,. He was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by a son Jerry Teague.

Survivors include his wife: Celestene Burrell Teague of the home, sons and daughters-in-law: Leeman Junior and Carol Teague, Donny and Gina Teague, Mark and Jill Teague all of Ellijay, daughters and son-in-law: Ann and Ed Bailey Plano TX, Shelia Teague, Ellijay daughter-in-law: Denise Teague, Ellijay, brother: Vaughn Teague, Ellijay 16 Grandchildren 27 Great Grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday October 17, 2018 at 2:00pm from the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church with Rev. Billy Nealey, Rev. Billy Dotson and Jerry Teague, Jr. officiating. Music will be by the church choir. Pallbearers: are grandsons, honorary pallbearers are great grandsons. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

The family will meet with friends Tuesday from 4:00pm until 9:00pm at the funeral home.

Margaret Anne Rainey: Obituary

Margaret Anne Rainey, age 36, of Auburn, passed away in Opelika, Saturday, October 13, 2018, as a result of complications from a blood clot. Meg is survived by her parents, Alexander B. and Anne Rainey; her brother and his wife, Alex Rainey (Laura); Brooke A. Myers; niece Sadie Elise Rainey; nephews Jackson Rossee Rainey and Eli Alexander Rainey; and numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins.

Meg was born on July 15, 1982, in Gainesville, Ga., and lived her entire childhood in Ellijay, Ga. After graduating from Gilmer High School, she attended Auburn University.  At Auburn, she was a member of Alpha Xi Delta Sorority and graduated with B.S. Business Administration in Logistics.  After graduating from Auburn, she worked in various public relations roles for the City of Auburn, including roles in the Economic Development Department, Office of the City Manager, and Parks and Recreation.  After 10 years with the city she transitioned into commercial real estate with Hayley Redd Development as a Project Manager and then as a commercial closing assistant, most recently with Davis, Bingham, Hudson & Buckner, P.C. in Auburn.

Meg was a member of the United Methodist Church and attended First Presbyterian Church of Auburn where she taught Sunday School. She volunteered her time and talents with various social and religious groups including, Alpha Xi Delta, The Exceptional Foundation of East Alabama, Leadership Lee County, and Public Relations Council of Alabama.  Meg was an exceptional communicator, a gifted writer, and the epitome of selflessness in her service to others. She was altruistic, always promoting and addressing the welfare of others, even before her own needs.  She was funny beyond belief, and fiercely loyal to her family and friends, whom she loved until her last breath.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 17, at First Presbyterian Church of Auburn at 11 a.m. CDT, with a visitation following the service. A separate reception will be held at First United Methodist Church of Ellijay, in Ellijay, Ga., on Thursday, October 18, between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. EDT.

The family ask that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Exceptional Foundation of East Alabama, 300 N. Dean Road, Suite 5-177, Auburn, AL 36830, or First Presbyterian Church of Auburn.

Guadalupe R. O’Neal: Obituary

Mrs. Guadalupe R. O’Neal age 66 of Ellijay died October 11, 2018.

Mrs. O’Neal was born December 9, 1951 in Juarez, Mexico to Bertha Lopez and Joaquin Ruiz. She was a Barber along with her husband,who operated O’Neal’s Barber Shop..

Survivors include: husband: Thomas O’Neal, sons, Juan O’Neal, Ellijay, Shawn O’Neal, Clinton, Al, Shannon O’Neal, Ohio, Ryan O’Neal, Ellijay, Thomas Ray O’Neal, Jr, Ellijay, mother; Bertha Lopez, Mexico, 16 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, sisters; Esther Nunez, Juanita Ruiz, Blanca Ruiz, Isabel Stephens, Mary Socorro Ruiz,. Several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held Sunday at 2pm from the chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with family and friends officiating. Inurnment will be in the Yukon cemetery.

The family request in lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital at www.stjude.org/donate in memory of Mrs. O’Neal.
