The Gilmer High School Lady Bobcats volleyball team road to Ringgold for the Region 8-AAAA Tournament at Heritage High School, where the Lady “Cats” clinched a fourth seed in the state tournament, after beating Northwest Whitfield. Previously the Lady “Cats” avoided another catastrophe at the hands of the Catamounts, when Gilmer disposed Dalton, the team that had knocked Gilmer out of the Region Tournament, the three previous years. This is the first trip to the state playoffs for the Gilmer volleyball team since 2006. (more…)

“Senior Night” Sweep: Lady “Cats” Clip “Nettes” at Net

The Gilmer High School Lady Bobcats volleyball team hosted the Dragonettes of region rival, Pickens High School. The Lady “Cats” clipped the “Nettes” at the nets, sweeping both the junior varsity and varsity matches, (25-19, 25-21), and (26-24, 25-15) respectively. In between the JV and varsity matches the Lady “Cats” honored the five graduating seniors: Jenna Parks; Britton Farlow; Sarah Lambert; Darby Herald; and Harmony Malham, in a brief ceremony. (more…)

Gilmer Gives Up 8 in 7th: Falls in First Home Game

The Gilmer Lady Bobcats softball team hosted the region rival, Pickens Dragonettes, in the first home game of the season. While the junior varsity squad came away with a 4-2 win, the varsity fell 11-4 despite leading 4-3 going into the seventh, and final, inning. (more…)

There’s a “new”coach in the neighborhood, she lives in Gilmer and it’s understood, she’s there just to take good care of the Lady “Cats,” like she’s one of the family. Kim Charles is in charge of the Gilmer High School Lady Bobcats basketball team. Charles, a long time assistant, and also the head softball coach, will replace Herb Horton, who retired earlier this year. (more…)

“Cats” Catch Crown in Own Cradle: Gilmer Wins ETC Tip-Off Tournament

The Gilmer High School Lady Bobcats and Bobcats basketball teams both placed first in the annual ETC Tip-Off Tournament. The round robin style tournament features boys and girls’ basketball games played between Copper Basin, Fannin County, Pickens, and Gilmer High Schools. The Gilmer High School Lady Bobcats volleyball team held the annual end of the year banquet at the Heritage House. The menu was a low country boil and the food was plentiful. The Gilmer High School Lady Bobcats softball team secured the first non-tournament win of the season at the hands, and home, of hated rival Pickens High School. The Lady “Cats” clawed out a 4-3 come from behind victory. Taylor Powell’s game winning RBI bunt in the top of the seventh inning scored Emily Cantrell, and the “Cats” claimed victory a half inning later. (more…)

Lady “Cats” Claws Paused in Pursuit of 1st Home Victory

The Gilmer High School Lady Bobcats softball team, fresh off of two mercy ruled losses on the road, at Lumpkin and Fannin respectively, looked to rebound in the team’s first home stand of the season. The “Cats” bats were paused by the paws of the Lady Panthers of Union, 9-1, and the Lady Rebels of Fannin, rose in the sixth to secure a 6-3 win for the visitors. (more…)

After a controversial call ended the junior varsity game, which saw the Lady Indians get a 2-1 victory despite the game ending with Gilmer at the plate and two women on; the varsity took the field, falling 9-1.
