Sam Olens on Methamphetamines in Georgia & ObamaCare’s Effect on Business

The last question to Mr. Olens was a two part one first addressing the methamphetamine problem in Georgia and second concern on where business owners stood in regards to the health care mandates of Obama care. Answering on the Obama care concern Sam Olens said “no one is exempt until we get the final decision.” Mr. Olens said he recently met the ‘drug czar” at the White House and there is zero dollars in the budget for meth. He also told us the DEA no longer has money to help law enforcement clean meth labs up. From now on it will be up to local government to fund the clean up and the problem is a small meth lab is approx a quarter of a million dollars to clean up with it being doubtful local governments have that kind of money to dedicate to this.

We learned Georgia is about the # 7th state in the country for meth use. Olens said it is not prevalent in the urban areas but is more of a rural drug, telling us it is most prevalent in Northwest Georgia. He feels the commercials and billboards placed by the Georgia Meth Project are effective. Most people the first time they use meth are addicted to it with only about 30% that takes 2-3 times. There is no other drug with that kind of addiction rate with the first use. Trafficking of meth is a big issue for South Gwinnett. As far as the methamphetamine problem, Mr. Olens told us he believes education is the key to prevention.
