The North Georgia Christian Academy Mariners volleyball team hosted the Lady Knights of Crossroads Christian. Despite a valiant Mariners effort, the Lady Knights emerged victorious, in both the middle school/junior varsity matches, and the junior varsity matches, sweeping both series. The Mariners began the night strong, with 9-0 run in the middle school/JV first game, thanks in part to excellent serving by Hannah Love, who served eight straight times with no return fire from the Lady Knights. The Mariners built the lead up to 10-4 before an 8-2 run by the visitors tied the game at 12-12.
The Lady Knights first lead of the game came on a dig for a kill with the game tied 22-22. Crossroads then scored the games final three point to take the come from behind victory.
The second game began much like the first, with Love showing no love to the opposition, serving five straight times, with no return, before the Lady Knights were able to get on the scoreboard.
Once again the Lady Knights eventually crept back into the game; however, the Mariners were able to hold onto the lead throughout, until Crossroads tied the game, once again at 22-22, on the strength of a 3-0. The Lady Knights said, “good night” by continuing the run, with three more unanswered points to take the victory 25-22.
The games between the older junior varsity squads were not as close with the Lady Knights reversing the trend of the early lead, as Crossroads jumped on the Mariners 5-1 to open the game. The Mariners eventually tied the game 6-6 and 7-7, both on kills from Love; however, the Lady Knights outscored North Georgia, 18-5, winning 25-12.
The Lady Knights cut down the Mariners with the strength of Excalibur in the last game, winning in blow out fashion, 25-5. The young Mariners squad was simply no match for its experienced counterpart.
Despite the loss, the Mariners seemed to be in good spirits, and was able to compete throughout the night. North Georgia, fans can expect the team to improve as the years and experience progress, as the albatross of inexperience can only be lifted through time.
