Skyler Smith Nominated by the Boys & Girls Club Three Rivers Unit for a KOHL’S CARES SCHOLARSHIP

Skyler Smith, son of Connie and Terry Smith, has been nominated by the Boys & Girls Club Three Rivers Unit for a KOHL’S CARES SCHOLARSHIP. Skyler is an ORIGINAL member of the Ellijay unit, founded in 2007.As a Club member, he has made a positive impact on younger members, as well as peers, through his role as a Leader In Training (L.I.T.). Skyler is a willing assistant in all areas of the program from recreation to arts/crafts, homework to playing board games.

Syler’s community involvement also includes the Boy Scout rank of Life Scout with an Eagle Scout in the near future. A member of First Baptist Church, he is active in the Discipleship and Youth Ministry programs playing the drums as part of these commitments. A member of the Clear Creek Middle School Band, he plays the trumpet and is part of the percussion section.

Official store, regional and national Winners will be announced by Kohl’s in June. However, having Skyler Smith as a member of the Club and our community means we are ALL are winners!

Kohl’s is honoring more than 2,200 youth, ages six to 18, who have made a positive impact on their communities with more than $420,000 in scholarships and prizes; top winners receive $10,000 each. “Through the Kohl’s Cares® Scholarship Program, Kohl’s recognizes young volunteers who dedicate their time, energy and passion to helping others and bettering the communities we live in,” said Julie Gardner, Kohl’s executive vice president and chief marketing officer. “During a time of economic uncertainty and high tuition costs, it’s important to support extraordinary kids by investing in their future.”

Through the Kohl’s Cares Scholarship Program, Kohl’s aims to honor young volunteers who have made a positive impact on their communities. Since the program began in 2001, Kohl’s has recognized more than 15,000 kids with more than $3 million in scholarships and prizes. In 2012, Kohl’s celebrates its 12th year of rewarding young volunteers.

The Kohl’s Cares Scholarship Program is part of Kohl’s Cares, Kohl’s philanthropic program focused on improving the lives of children. Kohl’s Cares benefits children’s health and education initiatives nationwide through its merchandise program, featuring special books and plush toys where 100 percent of net profit benefits children’s initiatives; fundraising gift cards for schools and youth serving organizations and the Associates in Action associate volunteer program.
