First Presidential Debate Fires up in Denver Wednesday

Republican Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney and President Barack Obama square off tonight in the first of three debates leading up to the November Election. The event marks the first time the two candidates have met in such a setting.

A Foxnews.com article today calls the event high-risk and high rewards, saying that any well-phrased retort by either candidate could tip the now-even polls in either candidate’s favor. Likewise, any verbal misstep could cause deep damage in public opinion, which could devastate either candidate in these last few weeks before the election.

Commentators, including Vice Presidential Candidate Paul Ryan, say that after tonight’s debate, voters will see the clear difference between the two candidates. Tonight’s event will be an opportunity for voters to see the two candidates side by side. Many see this election as crucial for our nation, a potential turning point in our country’s history, where some see a re-election as a more aggressive turn towards bigger and more oppressive government. As such, the debate will be an opportunity to see which candidate best represents America and will best lead our Nation out of a recessionary economy and into prosperity, and preserve our Nation’s safety and the constitutional freedoms of citizens.

TV anchor Jim Lehrer will moderate the 90-minute debate, which will focus mainly on domestic issues. The debate will begin at 9:00 P.M. The next debate is scheduled for October 16th and the last debate, October 22nd. The Vice Presidential forum will be held on October 11th.
