Press Release from Ellijay Chief of Police Regarding Burglary Arrest

BURGLARY ARREST PRESS RELEASE from the Ellijay Chief of Police Edward Lacey:On October 16, 2013 at approximately 05:45 am the Ellijay Police Department responded to a call at 305 South Main Street (ACE Hardware) where they received a report of a burglary to the garden/building supply office. EPD requested and received assistance from the Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division in processing the crime scene. At 09:00 am, while investigating the first call, EPD received a second burglary report at 623 South Main Street. At approximately 09:07 am the Ellijay Police Department received a call from a concerned citizen regarding a suspicious person near the North end of Harrison Park. While responding to investigate, an EPD officer noticed a white male wearing camoflaudged pants and a black t-shirt standing beside the roadway at 705 North Main Street. Upon seeing the police vehicle, the male ran into the woods near the Ellijay River. EPD requested and received assistance from the East Ellijay Police Department and the Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office in setting up a perimeter to contain the subject in the wooded area around around Harrison Park. At 09:36 am deputies from the Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office and officers from the Ellijay Police Department located the white male subject lying under bushes at a house on McCutchen Street. The subject was identified as Henry Allen Bragg of 962 North Bull Gap Road, Ellijay, Georgia. The subject was found to have existing warrants from GCSO and was in possession of evidence linking him to the two previous reported burglaries. Bragg was charged by EPD with two counts of Burglary and one count of possession of methamphetamine. T

The Ellijay Police Department would like to thank the Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office, East Ellijay Police Department and the involved concerned citizens which made possible the solving of these two burglaries and the subsequent arrest.
