The Return of Morality?

Opinion by George McClellan:Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal recently invited Christian ministers to a conference in Louisiana to encourage them to consider standing as candidates for elected public office in 2016, at all levels of government. Jindal and The American Renewal Project, in an effort to bring the attention of our nation, in its time of crisis, to the realization that wisdom and righteousness have fallen by the wayside, and see the clergy as a method of stemming the rot of societal ills.

Gov. Jindal reflects that as America was a nation founded on Judeo-Christian principles and that ministers, priests and preachers of all denominations (except Islam) were instrumental in founding Americas governing and legal systems and, indeed held public offices, that their influence could once again be felt positively in the public arena, if applied. The ACLU would go berserk but who gave them a veto on faith and morality in politics anyway?

Jindal’s idea is not to Christianize Americans who don’t want to be, unlike Islamic Jihadist’s, but to refocus our attention to the roots of our lost morality, the truths that made us comfortable, feel safe, gave us peace and to reconcile our fears about what’s wrong with America with a solution.

The Progressives have been slowly turning America into a stew of secularist stupidity and have convinced us that the theology of right and wrong, love thy neighbor, obey the Ten Commandments, & etc. are old out of date ideas that should be confined strictly to the pulpit on Sunday’s, to be replaced instead with the mentality of “do you own thing”, “I’m okay your okay” supported by a flood of pornography, unbridled sexuality, depravity and social decay.

The continuous drumbeat of “Separation of Church and State” is a damn lie, told over and over and over again, so that it comes to be believed when, in fact, no such law, rule, concept or Article in the Constitution say’s any such thing. Thomas Jefferson mentioned it once in a letter.

Clearly, politicians can no longer be trusted to save America, especially the Progressives who want to replace love of God with love for government. Ministers holding public office would at least bring a hint of righteousness to the market place of virtuous ideas. Virtue is a key component of freedom. Now, having said that, I shudder at the thought of a Jeremiah Wright, Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson gaining any office under the color of being Christian ministers.

Why would Gov. Jindal and the American Renewal Project want to encourage ministers to step up to the plate of social chaos? Because they are already there and understand the problems that are tearing our communities apart, that have destroyed black family’s and relieved them from the responsibility of raising productive citizens instead of future prison inmates.

I argue that some of our recently retired, discharged or fired military officers should be a deep base from which to draw our future political leadership class. I cannot disagree that the ministers who fill our nation and understand our people should not be included in the selection mix. What prevent’s them now? Nothing but the IRS and their rules on tax exemptions. Another good reason to be rid of that organization.

The Progressives have fought far too hard to allow the return of morals to the market place. But their arguments against religion are based on falsehoods, repeated over and over again and should be challenged at every turn. It’s time to take America back to its moral roots before it’s too late. Remember, Freedom is the goal, the Constitution is the way. Now, go think on it! (23 Jan 2015)
