• For students and parents interested in Dual Enrollment/Move On When Ready for spring 2017, information sessions will be held on 9-30 and 10-14 at the school during lunch. Space is limited, so you must contact your child’s counselor in advance to see whether your child is eligible and to sign up for these sessions.

Feature of the Week from GHS Counselors: How Do I Apply to Post-Secondary Schools?
1. Submit an application for admission. This can usually be done online via the web site of your post-secondary school of choice, but check out the College Planning tab on www.gafutures.org and http://www.commonapp.org/ for opportunities to apply to multiple post-secondary schools with one application. If you have not been on your www.gacollege411.org account in a long time, you will need to create a new account on www.gafutures.org. Make sure it is accurate, because this is also the site you go through for HOPE. Also, do not use your school email for this account, because you cannot receive emails from colleges on the school email.
2. Submit the fee to apply to a particular school, if required.
3. Submit an official high school transcript. There are several ways to request these. You can do so through www.gafutures.org once it is up and running, but it currently is not. Meanwhile, you can go to http://www.gilmerschools.com/ and click on the blue box Order My Transcript. The cost to request transcripts via this means is $5.00.
4. Submit official SAT or ACT test scores if required. Make sure your school of choice requires these for admission before you take one or both of them; some technical colleges, for example, require other tests instead. You can find out on their web sites. SAT or ACT scores must be requested directly from the testing agency, not from GHS.
5. Request teacher or counselor recommendations well ahead of time (if required).
