Earlier this week, customers began seeing a sign hanging in front of Ellijay’s local Piggly Wiggly.
The sign announced a discount on all items in the store. That discount, however, comes due to the announcement that the Piggly Wiggly is closing. According to Scott Lewis, President of Rockdale Grocery, the doors will close for the last time this Saturday, October 8, at 6:00 pm.
This is a lone store closing, Lewis says, and not a part of any larger number. The decision to close the store came with “much thought, turmoil, and grief” according to Lewis who states the ultimate reasons for the closing were due to lack of store traffic and income after an opportunity arose for the company to exit the location.
Lewis did offer his deep regrets at the closing stating, “We regret it for our loyal customers” and “We feel their pain.” Lewis also went on to say that he appreciated all of his workers at the store, a few of which “have been part of what I would call my work family for quite a while.”
When FYN asked if the company had any plans to potentially return to Ellijay at a later date in a different location, Lewis responded not at this time.

This is almost laughable about bad he feels. Scott is the most pompous human on earth. Everytime you'd walk by and say hi or whatever he'd just ignore you and keep walking and I worked there for years. Terrible ownership is pretty much at fault. They'd blame everything on the bag boys before themselves. Although I do feel for the good people that work there.
sorry to hear PW closing....I have heard and shopped at PW since I was a small kid,,,,even in Texas. Are you'll closing any other locations??? B New
