Ellijay Police Department Makes Marijuana Arrest

On March 3, 2017 at approximately 8:00 PM, EPD Officer Trevor McClure was patrolling the City of Ellijay when he noticed a Ford F350 which had non-functional tag and brake lights.  Officer McClure ran the vehicle’s registration number through the Georgia Crime Information Center and found that the registered owner, Aaron Dean, was listed as having an arrest warrant through Gilmer County for non-payment of child support as well as having a suspended driver’s license.  Based upon this information, Officer McClure performed a traffic stop on the vehicle.

The stop was conducted on South Main Street in the location of the Gilmer County Park.  Ms. Jaime Hancock was found to be driving the vehicle and the registered owner, Aaron Dean was found to be a passenger.  Following a brief investigation, and based upon the presence of an open container of alcoholic beverage, Officer McClure determined that he had probable cause to believe that additional intoxicating substances may be present in the vehicle.  Officer McClure conducted a search of the vehicle’s interior with the assistance of EPD Officer Ware and Gilmer Sheriff’s Corporal Andy Page.  The search resulted in the discovery of approximately four ounces of marijuana as well as what is believed to be hashish oil.  Further investigation led officers to believe that the registered owner of the vehicle, Aaron Dean, was the owner of the contraband found therein.

Mr. Dean was arrested on the warrant out of Gilmer County for child support obligations and was additionally charged with possession of more than one ounce of marijuana.  He was transported and released to the Gilmer County Detention Center.  Jaime Hancock was not charged and was released on the scene with warnings for driving a vehicle without properly functioning equipment.
