Mr. Newman J. “Jack” West: Obituary

Mr. Newman J. “Jack” West, age 91, of Ellijay, died Wednesday April 19, 2017.

Mr. West was born January 21, 1926, in Gilmer County, the son of the late Newman A. and Flora Mae Watkins West. He graduated Ellijay High School, attended college, served in the U. S. Army, in WWII, and was a member of the Bible Baptist Church.

Jack was an entrepreneur, who founded the West Block Company in East Ellijay, in 1959. He is preceded in death by his brothers and sister in law, Vernon West, Jerry and Joyce West.

Survivors include his wife: Lillian Pierce West, sons, Andy and Pat West of Ellijay daughter, Debbie Badger, Calhoun, 5 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren. Brothers and sisters-in-law; Mack and Ann West, East Ellijay; Ronnie and Sue West, East Ellijay; Larry and Gail West, Rex; sisters and brother-in-law Carolyn West Billue, and Susan and Joe Winkler, Atlanta, sister- in-law; Bunny West, Ellijay.

Memorial services will be held Saturday at 2:00pm from the chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with Rev. Emuel Sanford officiating. Military honors will be by the North Georgia Honor Guard.

The family will meet with friends following the service at the funeral home.
