Gilmer Over Hiawassee Dam In Tip-off Classic

The 2018 Tip-off Classic brought the Hiawassee Dam buses into Ellijay Ga on Saturday for tournament action against the Bobcats and Lady Cats of Gilmer High School.  The Lady Cats hit the court in game one with the Varsity boys to follow in the nightcap.

The game plan for Coach Nunn and the Lady Cats was executed almost flawlessly in the 58-19 win over the Lady Eagles.  Setting the pace and outscoring the opponent, Hope Colewell had an extremely good night in putting up 22 points.  Other Lady Cats adding points were Jailynn Ledford with 8, Bailey Teague and Emma Callihan with 6 points each in the game.  The Cats scored 17 points in the first period with 2 big 3-pointers by Colewell and never looked back.  Next up for the Lady Cats will be against Fannin on Monday.

The Varsity boys also took the court against Hiawassee Dam in the nightcap of day one. The Bobcats coming off a win on Friday over the Indians of Murray County were looking to get a commanding win over the Eagles.  It would take three and a half periods before the Cats could stretch out a decent lead.  The Eagles showcased good perimeter shooting throughout the game but seemed to run out of steam at the end.  The Cats pulled away to get the 62-43 victory to start the tournament at 1 and 0.  These guys will take the court again on Monday as well to face a very athletic Rebels team from Fannin.
