Local businesses give Gilmer County students an opportunity for hands-on experience through the automotive department

GILMER COUNTY, Ga. –  Thanks to the efforts of local businesses in Gilmer County, Gilmer County High School’s shop department can have real, hands-on experience in repairing a damaged truck.

Ronnie Thompson Ford in Gilmer County became aware of a Ford F150 damaged during transport.  A  train derailment occurred, leaving the truck’s damage too extensive to be repaired and titled.

Ronnie Thompson Ford worked hard to get the Ford Motor Company to donate to Gilmer High School as a work experience vehicle in their shop department.

After the truck was donated, other local businesses generously stepped up to help and provide the students with the tools they needed. LKQ Corporation generously donated the parts required for the repair.

Larry’s Body Shop, a family-owned business in Gilmer County, donated the repairs to make it drivable.

Not only did Chad Watkins, owner of Larry’s Body Shop, donate the repairs, but he brought in Gilmer County High School students to assist and have some hands-on experience in repairing the truck.

The repairs have been completed and the truck will be used as continued on hands experience for Gilmer County High school students who are participating in the schools automotive classes.
