Mrs. Tammy Ruth Beavers age 48 of Ellijay died Friday Feb. 14, 2020.

Mrs. Tammy Ruth Beavers was born August 17, 1971 in Maryland to Leslie Lamar Johnson and Dianna Rice Johnson. She acquired a Bachelor’s degree. She was also a homemaker.

Survivors include; Husband: Tommy Beavers, Ellijay Sons: Josh Beaver, Cumming, Nathan Gardner, Ellijay Daughters: Desiree Carpenter FL, Kathryn Sales, Ellijay, Tiffany Longboat, Ontario Canada, Brothers: Craig Eagan, FL, Sister: Kathy Baker, NC, Mother-in-law: Brenda Beavers, Canton, Sister-in-law: Lisa Hardman, Canton 13 Grandchildren several nieces and nephews also survive.

A gathering of friends and family will be held Monday Feb. 17, 2020 from 12:00pm until 6:00pm at the funeral home.

Mr. Johnny Couch Jr. age 80 of Ellijay GA died Feb. 15, 2020.

Mr. Johnny Couch Jr. was born Jan. 15, 1940 in Greenville South Carolina to John Couch Sr. and Grace Ramsey Couch. He was employed by Canton Mill, and was also of the Baptist Faith.

He is preceded in death by his wife Shirley Couch, son Mark Couch, daughters Deborah Maupin, and Gail Kitchen.

Survivors include: Johnny Couch, Jasper GA, Derrick Couch, Ellijay GA, Brother: Tony Couch Jasper GA, 12 Grandchildren: Mikie Maupin, Chyrstal Maupin, Heather Maupin, Kisha Pugh, Chad Couch, Ariel Couch, Corey Couch, Carsyn Couch, Daniel Couch, Torre Couch, Brittany Couch, Melissa Couch 4 great-grandchildren: Seth Simlery, Nathan Pugh, Haley Pugh, Remi Couch Several nieces and nephews also survive.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday February 19 at 1:00pm from the Mt. Pisgah Church Cemetery with Rev. James Nickels officiating.

The Family will receive friends Wed. Feb 19 from 9:00 am until 12:30pm at the funeral home.

Ms. Amelia Elizabeth (Dixon) Cornn, age 76 of Jasper, GA, passed away February 13th , 2020 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital surrounded by her family. Amelia was born on March 31st, 1943 in Maysville, NC to her parents Bernard Van Dixon and Florence Elizabeth Meadows. She graduated from White Oak High School in 1961 and obtained her Associates Degree in Business from FCCJ in Jacksonville, Florida. Amelia served several years with The Missionary Servants of the Most Blessed Trinity as Sister Marie Gerard in Philadelphia before returning to North Carolina and joining Civil Service as a Secretary in 1966. Amelia retired from the Naval Air Station in Jacksonville, FL, after 30 years of Civil Service. Amelia was a loving daughter, sister, cherished grandmother, and above all a devoted mother to her three children. She was a devout Catholic and was a member of Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church in Jasper, GA. Amelia loved to garden, read, cook for friends and family, and could never resist a good crossword puzzle. Her infectious laughter, contagious smile, and love for all are just some of the many contributions to her lasting legacy. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, February 19th, 2020 at the Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church with Father Byrd officiating. Friends and family are invited to join her children for lunch at her favorite restaurant at 12:30pm, Last Catch on Main in Jasper, GA. Interment will be held after the services at Ellijay City Cemetery at 2:00pm. Mrs. Cooper was born October 2nd, 1967, in Huntington, WV, to her parents, Clovis and Carole (Morrisette) Simpkins. Mrs. Cooper was a member of the Christian faith and was a claims representative for Blue Cross Blue Shield Insurance Company of Tennessee. Algia Smith Tarrer, age 72, of Dallas passed away February 14, 2020. Algia was a long-time member of Concord Baptist Church. She retired from the United States Treasury after over 30 years of service. She was a hard-working, loving person with a huge heart and a soft spot for children. Algia adored her family and loved spending time with her great-grandbabies. Also dear to her heart are her two dogs, Chloe and Daisy. Algia is preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, David Cleveland Tarrer. She is survived by her daughter, Michelle Warren (fiancé, Ricky Millwood); grandchildren, Kaitie Meeks, Kodie Warren, and Mason Warren; great-grandchildren, Eva Grace, Camdyn, Carson, Owen David, Paxton Dale; and a host of beloved friends. Mrs. Matteson was born on September 19th, 1978 in Dalton, GA to her parents, Michael Anthony and Edna Lynne (Long) Rich. She graduated from Sequoyah High School in 1997 and graduated with a BA from Reinhardt College. Mrs. Matteson was of the Christian faith, a member of Daughters of the American Revolution and the North Georgia Martial Arts Academy, and a Master Cosmetologist. Mrs. Matteson is preceded in death by her grandparents, J.L. Long of Dalton, Ga.,Floyd and Annie Ruth Rich of Dalton, Ga. Junior was born on February 3, 1932 in Austell, GA to his late parents, Ernest Paul, Sr. and Rosetta (Martin) Luttrell. Rev. Luttrell was an ordained Baptist minister and a member of the Crossroads Baptist Church. He was an honorably discharged veteran serving in the US Air Force. Miss Pauline Ellis, age 92, of Roswell, died, Saturday, February 8, 2020.

Miss Ellis was born August 4,1928 ,in Gilmer County the daughter of the late Millard and Viola Weaver Ellis. She was a retired Executive with the Atlanta Coca Cola Bottling Company and of the Baptist faith.

Her parents and siblings, Girtha Southern, Geneva Weaver, Eugene Ellis, sisters-in-law: Sybil Rogers, Doris Ellis, and niece,  Betty Chastain preceded her in death.

Survivors include:  brother: Clinton Ellis, Cumming, nieces; Shelvia Garland, Ellijay  Vickie Nordmark, Ellijay, Linda Sue Dalton, Winston-Salem, NC, Hope Cantrell, Ellijay,  Angie Strawbridge, Ellijay, Gena Pettit, Ellijay, nephew: Joe Ellis, Lawrenceville.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday 2:00 pm from the chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with Rev. Casey Richards officiating.  Interment will be in the Macedonia Baptist Church cemetery.

The family will meet with friends Tuesday from 9:00 am until the funeral hour of 2:00 pm at the funeral home.

Mrs. Linda Rice Weaver, age 69, of Ellijay died Sunday February 9, 2020.

Mrs. Weaver was born June 19, 1950, in Cherokee County, the daughter of the late Lloyd and Lucille Wright Rice. She was a 1969 graduate of Gilmer High School, and worked as bookkeeper for Covenant Community Church. Her parents; and siblings Kathleen Cruse and Joan Davenport preceded her in death.

Survivors include: husband: Ricky Weaver, daughter and son-in-law: Cara and Dr. John Hasper, Hiawassee, brother; Larry Rice, Ellijay, sisters; Brenda Newton, Barbara Long, both of Ellijay, Vivian Callihan, Jasper, several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:00 pm from the chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Fields, Rev. Emuel Sanford and Bro. Greg Sandway officiating. Interment will be in the Liberty Baptist Church cemetery.

Mr. Billy C. Helton, age 83, of Cherry Log, died Saturday, February 8, 2020.

Mr. Helton was born February 2, 1937, in Gilmer County the son of the late Jess and Jessie Whitener Helton.  Billy was a veteran serving with the U.S. Air Force, of the Baptist Faith and also worked with the Gilmer County Sheriffs office for a number of years.

He is preceded in death by his wife; Barbara Stacy Helton, son; Joel Helton, siblings, Clarence, L.D. and Frank Helton, Agnes Garland and Ruth Painter.

Survivors include: son: Ronnie Helton, Cherry Log, daughter; Phyllis Mayfield, Blue Ridge,   7 grandchildren 5 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 2:00 pm from the chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with Rev. Joey Patterson and Rev. Kenny Hagin officiating.  Interment will be in the Underwood cemetery with graveside honors by the Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office.

Mrs. Alma May Mulkey Luttrell, age 94, of Ellijay, died Monday February 3, 2020.

Mrs. Luttrell was born February 16, 1925, in Gilmer County, the daughter of the late Samuel and Sarah Wishon May. She worked for many years as co-owner/accountant for B&R Builders, and was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher for 53 years. She was preceded in death by her husband’s Buford Mulkey and J.T. Luttrell along with son: Charles Mulkey, granddaughter: Lisa Batten, son-in-law: Dave Dagraedt and daughter-in-law: Shelba Mulkey.

Survivors include: daughter; Wanda Dagraedt, Ellijay, son; Ruel Mulkey, Ellijay, step children: Aaron and Thelma Luttrell, Dorothy and Jim Powell, brother and sister-in-law: Newell and Alice May, Ellijay. 4 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:00 pm from Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Rubin Smith and Rev. Dan Rosser officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Carew Messer, age 81, of Ellijay, died Sunday, February 2, 2020.

Mr. Messer was born September 30, 1938, in Hindman, KY the son of the late; Alfred and Nannie Holland Messer.  He worked in construction. He is preceded in death by his parent’s, longtime companion, Pauline Tracy and a host of other family members.

Kevin Patrick Faris Sr: Obituary

U.S. Veteran

 Kevin Patrick Faris Sr., age 64, of Ellijay, GA, passed away after a courageous battle with stage 4 lung cancer.

Kevin was born at Harpal’s Maternity Home May 31, 1955, in Coupeville, WA, to Emerson and Kathleen (Clark) Faris. He graduated from Coupeville High School in 1973 and attended Kent State University. Kevin served 28 years in the United States Navy and retired in 2000 as Chief Petty Officer. He then completed 10 years in civil service retiring as a GS-12 for a second time in 2012. He settled in Ellijay, GA.

Along the way, Kevin has made many friends and touched the lives of all he met. He will be remembered for his selflessness and love of family.

He is survived by the love of his life, Elizabeth Irene Tiegen, two sons Kevin P. Faris Jr. of Mukilteo, WA and Justin Faris currently deployed in the Navy, two daughter’s Haily Clemens of Snohomish and Asheley Faris of Athens, GA. one stepchild, daughter Kayleigh Dean, two stepsons, Peter and Patrick Weiss, one sister, Kathleen Faye (Faris) Diemert of Anacortes; three brothers, Jim E. Faris Grandville, TX., Foster Faris and Emerson Faris Anacortes; one aunt, Dorothy Keefe of Coupeville, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date and please make donates to the American Cancer Society in memory of Mr. Faris.
