Jon Embree joined the list of college head coaches to lose their jobs on Sunday, when Colorado athletic director Mike Bohn announced that Embree had been fired after his second season as Buffaloes head coach.
Embree, who played tight end at Colorado in the ‘80s under legendary head coach Bill McCartney, went 4-21 as head coach, including a discouraging 1-11 record this year.
Today is Sunday, June 17th, which is significant for two reasons: it is Father’s Day, the one day out of the year that we take time to thank our dads for walking us through the other 364 days with very little disruption, and it is exactly 74 days until the 2012 college football season kicks off. With the days quickly winding down, it’s important that the avid fan out there knows what to look out for once the first sets of games get under way in what promises to be another year full of wild upsets, dramatic comebacks, and hilarious head coaching meltdowns. The end of the football season is a very sad time to those who practically worship the sport like myself, but it does give us valuable time to reflect on everything we witnessed and start looking forward to the future. One such topic that comes up at this point in time is coaching changes. Twenty seven college teams changed head coaches in preparation for the 2012 season, calling for the need of a ranking of these new coaches.
