Philadelphia Phillies pitcher, Roy Halladay, was the unanimous first place choice for the National League Cy Young award. He is the fifth player to win the Cy Young award in both the National, and American League.Halladay, just the 13th player in NL history to be a unanimous choice for the award, lead the league in wins: with 21 against 10 losses; shutouts with four; complete games with nine; and innings pitched with 250 2/3. On May 29th he joined 19 others when he threw the 20th perfect game in Major League history against the Florida Marlins. He also became just the second pitcher in post-season history to record a no hitter in game 1 of the NLDS, although post-season play is not considered in Cy Young balloting.

Halladay received 224 points with all 32 of the first place votes. St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright finished second with 122 points, he received 28 second place votes. Third place finisher, Colorado Rockies pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez, was the only other pitcher to garner second place votes with 4, he had 13 third place votes. Atlanta Braves pitcher Tim Hudson was fourth with 39 points, and Florida Marlins pitcher, Josh Johnson finished fifth with 34 points. Points are awarded accordingly: First-7; Second-4; Third-3; Fourth-2; and Fifth-1.
