Community: Isaiah House

Isaiah House is a transitional home that offers men the opportunity to learn skills necessary to piece their lives together after being shattered by drug or alcohol addiction, a continuing problem in many communities like our own.

Directors Ed and Sally Jeffery have a personal connection to the struggles these men face in society every day. Their motivation for founding the house sprung from a need Ed saw first-hand.

“Twelve years ago, after a 12-Step meeting where ‘grace’ was the topic, Sally and I were troubled by the lack of understanding of those attending. We were convicted that this was our ministry. This birth in us is what is now the Isaiah House.”

In addition to attending the church of their choice, each resident participates in several weekly Isaiah House meetings and attends a minimum of two 12-Step meetings in the community. Isaiah House classes have included Crown Financial Ministries [a Bible study on finances], “God Provides” series, “Experiencing God” by Henry Blackaby, and several teachings by Lou Giglio. Each man is expected to serve in the community as needs arise. Men who are unemployed spend four hours a day seeking employment and four hours serving in the community or assisting around the Isaiah House.

The Jeffery’s have been active in Gilmer County’s addiction recovery community for over six years, and Isaiah House is entering its third year.

Isaiah House is located on Old Hwy 5 South in Ellijay, located between the Lion’s Club fairgrounds and Talking Rock.
