The Gilmer Bobcats headed to Pickens County and demolished all the competition in the “Burnt Mountain Classic.” They finished in first place with 293.5 points. Second place wasn’t even within 100 points of the Bobcats.Gilmer had a top five place winner in all but one weight class, including four wrestlers as first place winners, and six finalists overall.
Justin Karr finished first at the 112-pound weight class. Tyler Davenport finished first at 130. Hunter Barnes finished first at the 171. Ian Smith finished first at 189, and James Longino finished first at 215.
Second place finishers were: Cameron Perry (103); and Josh Perigo (152).
Jonnie Flakes finished third at 125, and Trevor Martin finished third as well, at 145. Brady McCollum lost to one person the entire tournament, Brice Romine of Sonoraville, yet still finished fourth. He lost twice to Romine, once in the quarterfinals and once in the conciliation finals (for third place finish).
Joey Ray finished fourth as den Ben DeLoach, who lost a heartbreaker (3-0) in the conciliation finals to finish fourth at 160. Sam Rogers finished fifth at 135.
The tournament took place over two days and featured 19 teams.
