The suspect, identified as Neil Gary, was receiving medical treatment for injuries sustained during the gun battle with deputies, according to the Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office.
No deputies were injured in the shooting.
The incident prompted a significant law enforcement response in the Yukon Road area. Officials issued a shelter-in-place alert Friday afternoon as authorities searched for the suspect. A heavy law enforcement presence was reported near the 2000 block of Yukon Road.
Road closures remain in effect, until further notice, as authorities continue their response.
