Owls Smoke Camels

The Kennesaw State Owls defeated the Camels of Campbell 78-64 at home in the KSU Convocation Center. The win ended a five game losing streak and moved the Owls within a half-game of the eighth and final in the Atlantic Sun tournament, currently held by Stetson and Cambell. Sophomore, Markeith Cummings scored a season high 31 points in the win.Tony Ingle, KSU head basketball coach, said,

“We came out flat, but the guys battled back at the end of the first half to get to halftime even. In the second half we played really well.”

The Owls were down seven points before a 7-0 run, including a dunk by Cummings, allowed them to go into half time tied 34-34.

Kennesaw’s first lead came with 18:26 left in the game, when Aaron Anderson scored an open lay up off an assist from Cummings, who led the team with a total of six assists. Both teams exchanged leads for a total of nine times for almost seven minutes. Senior captain Kelvin McConnell gave the Owls the lead for good with 10:26 left in the game with his third straight three point bomb. The three was McConnell’s 200th, making him only the second player with 200 threes in school history. Ronnell Wooten is the first.

The Owls used an 8-1 run to pull away and never allowed the Camels to get closer than eight throughout the night. Sophomore LaDaris Green posted his sixth double double of the season with 10 points and 13 rebounds. He also had four blocks on the night, giving him his eighth game of the season with four or more blocks, a KSU Division I record that he set as a freshman.

The game marked the final time that the two will meet in conference play as the Camels are moving to the Big South Conference in the 2011-12 season. The Owls have a three game win streak against the Camels after losing six in a row previously.
