Regal Ramford Rules Region 7-AAA

Alan Ramford, the Gilmer High School Athletic Director for the past three years, was named Athletic Director of the Year for Region 7-AAA. Ramford is one of 12 eligible A.Ds. On Tuesday night, just after the Senior Night presentations for both the girls and boys basketball teams, Ramford was honored in front of the home crowd. This was fitting for the former Gilmer Lady Bobcats Basketball coach. There was a small ceremony to honor the graduating seniors from both basketball teams before Ramford was presented with his award. The self-effacing Macon native said after the ceremony,
“It just means I’m standing on good people’s shoulders.”
Ramford was quick to give the credit for his success to those coaches and student athletes that are under his tutelage. Still known as “coach” to some, Ramford continues working with the Gilmer football team in addition to his administrative duties.
The home teams went one and one on the night, with the girls pulling out a 53-52 overtime victory, while the boys lost 80-60, despite a double double from Ryan Lowery (12 points, 16 rebounds). The boys simply could not overcome a propensity for turning the ball over.
