Fireside Log Homes air dried wood storage building burned to the ground today. The storage building is located on River St. in the City of Ellijay behind Fireside Log Homes’ model.
fetchyournews.com (FYN) was told by an un-named source that there was enough air-dried lumber in the building to build at least five log homes. Paul Malham commented that a metal cutting torch was in use to dismantle a metal conveyer and a spark ignited the building. Because the wood was air dried it went up in flames quickly. FYN was not able to obtain the person’s name that was working when the fire started and is awaiting the official report from Ellijay City Fire Chief Sam West. Don Mahaffey, owner of Fireside Log Homes, had no comment.
Gilmer County and City of Ellijay responded to the fire on River street behind the Fireside Log Homes building today at approx 2p.m. According to Paul Malham, the property was being cleaned in preparation for a new flea market that will be opening soon. Paul told FYN that this was phase 2 of the cleaning preparation and something went wrong, resulting in the fire in a building filled with lumber.
