Bobcats Battle in Blue Ridge to Stalemate

The Gilmer Bobcats traveled to the Blue Ridge to take on the Rebels of Fannin County in a 3-3 tie that was called at the end of the seventh inning due to nightfall. The Bobcats held a 3-0 lead before a sixth inning Rebel rally tied the game.The game began as a pitchers’ duel between Gilmer’s Marlen Hensley and Fannin’s Todd McClure. The Bobcats Austin White began the game with a lead off double. Fannin’s Jordan Farmer had a single in the bottom of the first, the lone hit by the Rebels in the first inning. Neither team scored until the fifth inning.

The Bobcats scored three runs in the fifth after a walk with bases loaded, and a two run single by Jacob Teague.

The Rebels’ comeback began when Jordan Farmer’s ground rule double scored James Lennon. McClure drove in the next run with a seeing eye single. The game was tied after a sacrifice fly.

The Bobcats were unable to score despite White being on third with no outs, after a bunt by Brooks Hale, in the seventh inning. White was picked off and Forrest Bramlett hit into a double play. The three Rebel batters were retired one after another all via strike outs in the bottom of the seventh.

As darkness crept in, the umpires decided to suspend the game due to lack of light.
