Allowing liquor sales by the drink was the question being answered by the voters in the City of Ellijay. Voters cast their votes March 15th 2011 on a special referendum that would allow liquor sales in restaurants located in downtown Ellijay. fetchyournews.com spoke with Gary Watkins and received the final tally Tuesday night.The final voting ended with 81 Yes votes and 43 No votes. Many downtown business owners were hoping the vote would be yes. Restaurants believe allowing drinks to be sold downtown would enable them to offer the same service currently available at establishments in East Ellijay. The final vote is in and according to the votes cast, the City of Ellijay will be able to serve liquor by the drink.
