The TEA Party of Gilmer County’s meeting on March 22, featured a visit from Georgia State Attorney General, Sam Olens. Mr. Joe Hendricks, Gilmer County District Attorney, spoke to the crowd and introduced Mr. Olens, stating “I think we are very fortunate beginning in 2011 is to have an Attorney General who is committed to the rule of law, who is committed to the principles of limited government, committed to follow the law regardless of party and regardless of personal feelings..”
Mr. Olens began by letting us know how he feels about our area and the beauty of the mountains. This is actually his 2nd visit this year to our area. Sam Olens told us he believes “that what you ran on is what you are supposed to do” and went on to explain the need to change the Sunshine Laws of the State meaning open meetings and open records. So as soon as he took office he started with HB397 which would make it easier for the public to get records.
