Gilmer’s J.V. Bobcats Get Bombarded

The Gilmer Bobcats junior varsity baseball team was swept in a two game double header by the junior varsity Rebels of Fannin County High School, falling 9-6 in the first game and 4-1 in the second game.The Bobcats led in both games. The first lead came in the top of the second inning when Gilmer scored two runs off a sacrifice grounder with bases loaded. The lead was short lived. The Rebels scored four runs in the bottom of the second to take a 4-2 lead. The first run scored was somewhat controversial as the runner seemed to caught in a run down between third base and home, but beat the tag of the catcher with a shake move.

One Gilmer fan yelled, “That man was out,” and “That’s the worst I seen in my life.”

After failing to score in the top of the third the Bobcats were bombarded by four more runs in the bottom of the third making the score 8-2 in favor of the home team Rebels.

One run was scored by each team in the fourth to bring the score to 9-4. The top of the fifth saw the Bobcats cut the lead to 9-6, but Gilmer was unable to complete the comeback.

Gilmer scored first on Fannin in the second game in the top of the first when Fannin failed to secure in out, with two runners caught in run downs, between first and second and third and home. Once again the lead was short lived as the home team took the lead for good in the bottom of the second with two runs scored.

Gilmer was shut out the rest of the game. Fannin scored the final two runs of the game in the bottom of the third.
