Fair Play: Southern Fried Fun In Gilmer

There are heart-racing rides, sugar-spun food and blue ribbon animals on South Main Street. The Gilmer County Fair will be in full force this weekend with a little something special for the young and young-at-heart. The forecast for Saturday calls for plenty of sun and a high temperatures of 90. Sunday, there’s a chance of rain. The Ellijay Lion’s Club sponsors the annual event and this year, we’re told there are several new rides. Admission and Ticket Prices
Admission to the fair is $3 for children and $5 for adults. This year, fair-goers can purchase bracelets for unlimited rides every evening beginning at 6 pm for $18 a wristband. Individual tickets are $1 and buyers will receive two free tickets for every 10 purchased.

Rides and Attractions
The fair offers a large selection of food including cotton candy, corn dogs, shaved ice and funnel cakes. There are many games and other attractions, including a chance to view farm and exotic animals. The midway runs from the carousel to the Zipper, with a variety of rides this year for children of all sizes. The fair is located at the Ellijay Lions Club at 1729 South Main St. in Ellijay.

Exhibits
The exhibits are judged in three different divisions: Elementary, Youth, and Adult. There are 10 different categories in the Elementary division, the categories in the Youth division are Agriculture, Crafts, and Food, and in the Adult division are Agriculture, Canning, Baking, Sewing, Needlework, Crafts, Art, Photography, and Quilting.
