The Bible on Inflation (Part III)

Religion

Last week we talked about the causes of inflation and the Bible’s view of it. Basically, it is a form of theft on all levels. The process is that the government dilutes the money supply and merchants, in response, dilute their products without lowering their prices. Inflation is also a barometer of moral failure in a culture.

This week, we want to conclude by presenting biblical solutions to this particular problem. And, I will repeat my belief that the Scriptures offer solutions to all of life’s problems regardless of how complex.

Always, at the top of the list is prayer. We should pray for our leaders. We should pray for our country. And, we should pray that we, all of us, would do the right thing in all situations. When we do, God’s blessings follow (Deuteronomy 28, 29).

Also, at the top of the list, is tithing. Bet you didn’t expect tithing would be a solution. Inflation, which is a devourer, and high taxes are a product of robbing God. Malachi 3:8-12 says: “Will a man rob God? Yet you are robbing Me! But you say, ‘How have we robbed You?’ In tithes and offerings. You are cursed with a curse, for you are robbing Me, the whole nation of you! Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in My house, and test Me now in this,” says the LORD of hosts, “if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you a blessing until it overflows. Then I will rebuke the devourer for you, so that it will not destroy the fruits of the ground; nor will your vine in the field cast its grapes,” says the LORD of hosts. “All the nations will call you blessed, for you shall be a delightful land,” says the LORD of hosts.

The positive promise is that if we tithe, He will open the windows of heaven and pour out uncontainable blessings. Plus, He will rebuke the devourer (keep the devil off our backs). If we don’t tithe, we rob God and the opposite occurs. We are under a curse and part of that curse is high taxes and inflation.

Since we only give God about 2% nationally, we give the government up to 50%. If we gave God his 10%, government would shrink, as would taxes. Why? Because the churches would be doing much of what the government does, and much more efficiently too. If we all tithed, our churches would have the money they need to do all the things God calls it to do.

Finally, we pressure our Representatives and Senators to balance the budget and back our currency with something of value. This takes time and effort, but it is something that cannot be neglected on this or any other critical issue.

None of us want to be robbed of our savings through inflation. God has given us solutions. Let’s apply them.
