Hundreds of people are turning out for the 9th Annual Good Samaritan Catholic Church Flea Market.
According to Rev. Mattox, the flea market opened to a full parking lot and a line outside the gate that ran the length of the fence, three people deep. The flea market was previously held in the church’s social hall, but due to the renovations going on at Good Samaritan it was moved to the Lion’s Club Fairgrounds. According to Rev. Mattox, with the growth of the flea market over the years, the social hall had become too small anyway, so the larger space is wonderful and hopefully future flea markets can be held at the fairgrounds also. This sentiment was echoed by many attendees.

The flea market organizer, Debi Slaughter, says that donations for the flea market are taken year-round and come from the community as well as church parishioners and their friends, family and neighbors. Proceeds go to the Good Samaritan Catholic Church renovation. Items that are not sold by closing time on Saturday will be picked up by local charities such as Cartecay Thift Store and Hope, Faith and Charity.

The cooler temperatures this weekend will make it an enjoyable browsing experience at the flea market that has something for everyone. You will find electronics, household décor and appliances, linens, furniture, Christmas items, children’s toys and bicycles, and apparel for all ages, shapes and sizes. There is a special deal on the apparel: Get a bag from a volunteer, fill it with clothes and pay only 2.00. The pavilion is filled with goodies and more can be found inside the metal building. Items are in good condition and the prices won’t break your budget.
The hours for Saturday, September 17 are 8:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. There is no admission charge.
