Lady “Cats” Catch Heat from Dragonettes

The Gilmer High School Lady Bobcats softball team traveled to Pickens High School to take on the Dragonettes. The home team emerged victorious 2-0. The game was a pitchers’ duel throughout, with neither team scoring until Pickens’ Salone Brow hit a RBI single that drove in Danielle Goss, in the bottom of the fourth inning. In the first inning the first three “Cats” batters scratched a base. With the bases loaded Amberly Newton’s hit a single; however, lead off batter, Bailey Charles, was thrown out on the force out, two strike outs and a ground out ended the Gilmer offensive threat for the inning. The “Nettes” went down one, two, three in succession to close the inning.

Only one batter, Pickens’ Kennedy McTaggert, reached first base after the first, until the bottom of the fourth. Doss led off with a single to center field. Mindi Mullins followed with a fence hitting double that put women on second and third. Brown’s aforementioned RBI made, came after a strike out, and was followed by two more, closing the inning with the home team in the lead 1-0.

Jade Green, via walk, was the only Bobcat batter to reach first, in the top of the fifth. However, the Dragonettes bats lacked fire as well, as they were all retired in succession.

Pickens pitcher, Savannah Buck procured all the Pickens’ defensive outs in the top of the sixth, with a catch of Taylor Powell’s short hit, and two strike outs.

The “Cats” were caught in the cradle of the “Nettes” in the bottom of the sixth. Goss once again led off with a single. Mullins’ sacrifice ground out moved Goss to second. Kristin Garner, hit a double, that greatly resembled Brown’s, in that it hit the fence and scored Goss, making the score 2-0 in Pickens’ favor.
