With the ETC TV3 Tip Off Tournament now at its final day of matchups on Tuesday, the Gilmer Bobcats had games to play against the Copper Basin Cougars.

The first meeting of the day, featuring the Lady Bobcats and Lady Cougars, saw an intense battle between two very strong teams. Down 19-16 at halftime, the Lady Bobcats hit a hot streak in the third quarter, putting up fifteen points to take a 31-26 lead over Copper Basin going into the fourth quarter. Although the Lady Cougars were able to score fifteen points of their own in the fourth quarter, Gilmer’s thirteen in that quarter propelled them to a narrow 44-41 victory.

Ansley Mulkey led Gilmer in scoring with thirteen points, while Brittany Lowman led the team in rebounds with four. Mulkey, Lowman, and Haley Garland were each named to the All-Tournament team. Thanks to the victory, the Lady Bobcats brought home the runner-up trophy for the tournament.

The boy’s game had a lot on the line for Gilmer, as a win for the Bobcats would secure a first place finish in the tournament.

The Bobcats looked a little too confident in the first quarter, giving up twenty-three points to a Copper Basin squad that took advantage of any Gilmer mistakes. However, Gilmer woke up in the second quarter, putting up twenty-three points in a quarter that saw senior Ryan Lowery score his 1,000th career point.

Now up by ten points at the start of the third quarter, Gilmer was able to contain the Cougars’ offense just enough to stifle any attempt at a comeback, leading to a 67-53 victory for the Bobcats. Joe Bob Charles led Gilmer in scoring with nineteen points, while Ryan Lowery led the team in rebounds with ten.

Charles, Lowery, and Austin White were each named to the All-Tournament team, and the Bobcats were able to win the ETC Tip Off Tournament.
