“Your hard work with the students, faculty, and community has earned your school a Platinum Award for making great gains in student achievement,”

Gilmer County Middle School has been named winner in the 2011 Single State-wide Accountability Awards. Gilmer Middle School is one of ten schools in the state that received the Platinum Award. The news came at the February Board of Education Meeting as Superintendent Bryan Dorsey presented the award to the Gilmer County Middle School Team. As way of presentation, Superintendent Dorsey read the announcement and congratulations letter from Executive Director of the Governor’s Honors Office of Student Achievement to Clear Creek Principal Jason Kouns.

“Your hard work with the students, faculty, and community has earned your school a Platinum Award for making great gains in student achievement,” Dorsey read. The criteria for the Platinum Award are making three consecutive years of Annual Yearly Progress (AYP), demonstrating at least 35 percent of students exceeding standards in all test areas as measured by the state assessments and placing in the 98th percentile or higher state-wide in student achievement gains. Gilmer Middle School met all these criteria.

Superintendent Dorsey then thanked Kouns and his team for their leadership and all their hard work.
