Merle Howell Naylor Announces Her Intent to Run for Tax Commissioner

Please let me introduce myself before I ask for your support. My name is Merle Howell Naylor and I am married to Larry Naylor, a retired minister. I have three sons Nicholas, Evan and Justin Howell and four wonderful grandchildren.I am currently employed as the Director of the Gilmer County Family Connection where I work with local, regional and state agencies and organizations to find solutions for children and families. I was the manager of Verizon Wireless in East Ellijay where my team and I received awards annually for surpassing company goals and for our customer care. I was the last Chairman of the five person Gilmer County Board of Commissioners and the first Chairman of the three person Gilmer County Board of Commissioners. My experience as county commissioner gave me a working knowledge of the millage rate and an understanding on the importance of fair and equitable tax collection.

I currently serve on the board of Isaiah House, Chattahoochee Technical College Learning Advisory Board and on the Kids Kottage Advisory Board for Operations. I served as a board member for Gilmer Arts and Heritage and as Secretary for the Ellijay Lions Club for seven years. I am currently the President of the Ellijay Lions Club. My motto echoes that of the Lions Club: to serve my community with all my means. My pledge to you is that I will always treat you fairly and respectfully with any concern that you have and we will work together toward an equitable solution.
